Lions are men and
women who volunteer their time to humanitarian causes in their local and
world communities. By conducting service projects and raising funds, Lions
strive to help those in need, wherever need exists. The Lions motto is "We Serve". |

Coloma Lions Are Active in Their Community
The Coloma Lions have been very active in
the past year. In December, the Lions distributed bags of candy for
the Christmas Party for the children of Coloma and packed and distributed
Christmas Food Baskets to the needy and Christmas Fruit Baskets to the
elderly.
In February they held a Fisheree on Pleasant Lake that was very well attended. The weather was perfect, the fish were biting, and the annual Radar Run attracts a good crowd every year.
The club sponsored an Easter Egg Hunt in April at the Coloma Community Park that was attended by hundreds of eager children. The snow and cold did not chase them away.
During the spring, summer, and fall they held periodic road cleanups along their assigned section of Hwy. 21.
The Coloma Lions celebrated the 35th Anniversary of the founding of their club at the Anna Follett Community Center on Saturday, May 12, 2007. A 35th Anniversary pin was designed to celebrate this milestone and is available for purchase. There were over eighty people present for the celebration. Six Coloma Lions who were charter members of the club still belong. Present for the celebration were Arden Bandt, Arthur Dee, Mike Kerschner, Dick Meyer, Elmer Payne, and Steve Rodger. Kenyon Follett was unable to attend. Plainfield Lions Max Harrington, who was insturmental in forming the club was an honored guest. A Melvin Jones Fellowship was presented to Plainfield Lion Bob Barker at the dinner.
The annual Coloma Lions Chicken Chew in June is the main fund raiser for the year. The Sunday dinner serves over 1,500 dinners each year. In addition, the brat stand, cake walk, Chicken Drop, Kids Tractor Pull, raffles, baseball tournaments, mud volleyball, horseshoe competition, car show, and a variety of bands provides something for everyone to do.
People in the community frequently asked members what the Lions do with all of the money they raise. A 25 foot by 6 foot banner now hangs in the park during each Chicken Chew listing all the ways that the “Coloma Lions Support Our Community.” People are amazed when they see what the Lions have done over the years for the community. Their latest project was sealcoating the parking lots at the Community and the Park to make access safer during all kinds of weather.
